Another fair canceled: FUTURMODA would be held in October 2021

On February 26th, 2021, the Spanish Association of Footwear Component Companies -AEC-, responsible for the organization of the FUTURMODA fair, released the following statement:

The AEC Board of Directors, as members of the FUTURMODA Organizing Committee, have met this Wednesday to analyze the state of the fair and the variables that make it difficult to hold the next edition of FUTURMODA.

In the absence of a month and a half of the celebration of the exhibition, the organizing committee of the fair, has made the difficult decision to cancel the celebration of the 45th edition of the International Exhibition of Leather, Components and Machinery for Footwear and Leather Goods, due to current restrictions, both to be able to travel, and to be able to celebrate events and professional fairs, and thus avoid the possible risks of contagion and economic losses due to the lack of timely decisions or unexpected postponements that had to be taken at the last minute.

From AEC, we want to make public the sad decision to suspend the planned event, in which we have been working with great enthusiasm since last September. Thus, the 45th edition of the fair, which was to be held on April 07th and 08th at the Institución Ferial Alicantina, is canceled.

This difficult decision has been made "after many weeks evaluating the progress of the pandemic" and after having "consulted" both the administration, as well as the majority of businessmen and exhibitors, who express their desire to return to the fair.

To agree with this decision is not unanimous; some of the exhibitors have asked us to study again, both the new modification of dates, as well as the possibility of proposing other parallel actions to promote the sector. It should be remembered that FUTURMODA, like the rest of international fairs, has already been moved in the fair calendar, changing the dates of its celebration from March to April. From AEC we are going to work on different initiatives that allow us, in one way or another, to promote the event and its companies.

In this sense, we do not rule out that during April 07th and 08th, the presentations of the trends for the next Autumn Winter 2022-2023 season may be held, along with other presentations on digitization and sustainability, putting in value the sector and its companies.

We deeply regret this decision, being aware of what it means for our sector, both economically and commercially, especially in these tough times our industry is going through.

From AEC we ratify our willingness and commitment to hold the fair again when there is a positive evolution of the situation, as well as a specific legal framework, which allows us to safely plan the return of the fair activity.

If this situation improves, the next edition of FUTURMODA will take place on October 20th and 21st, 2021, at which time "we hope to have the maximum participation of both national and international exhibitors".
